There are two bands I credit for getting me into music; Maroon 5 and Green Day. This song drove me to do the things I've been scared to do. It encouraged me to dream instead of focus on the super serious things in life all the time. I found this band pretty early in my life, in early middle school, and it taught me to take chances. I'm definitely a lot different now than I would be if I hadn't found this song.
2) "Wolf in Sheep's Clothing" by This Providence.
This song is very personal to me. I had a friendship, that friend was not as honest as I'd previously thought, this song pushed me to end it and move on. It was a very tough thing to handle, especially at the point in my life that I was at, but this song helped me get through it and not regret it.
3) "How's it going to be?" by Third Eye Blind
One of the biggest influences of my young adolescence. There's no real way to explain how this song affected me, but it'll always be very dear to me.
4) "Prayer Of The Refugee" by Rise Against
Such a great song. Tim McIlrath is a genius. I loved the song when I got the album, but the video made it even better. I love how Tim uses music and videos to raise awareness about animal rights. It's one of the things that needs to be spoken about, and Tim is one of the few people who have the guts to do it in the fashion that he does.
5) "Down and Out" by The Academy Is...
This is a very touching song. This showed me that music isn't always silly love songs or angry songs about anarchy or whatever. It's just a story put to music. It's about abuse, but William Beckett wrote it so you don't know who abused the person he's singing about. Was it the father? Was it a boyfriend? Or even a girlfriend? He leaves it up to the listener to interpret and I love that about him.
